With OTAs starting next week, the Denver Broncos will have plenty of opportunities to see who will step up and fill the voids of a team that missed the playoffs for a second consecutive season in 2017. There will be some positions that have a clear-cut forerunner, however, there is still plenty of chances for players to grasp their spot on the roster.
One of the most intriguing battles that come to mind is the scramble to be Case Keenum’s backup. The competition will be between last year’s mister irrelevant, Chad Kelly, and Broncos 2016 1st round pick Paxton Lynch.

Kelly spent all of last year on the IR so he could recover from an injury and looks forward to coming back this season. In Lynch’s case, he was able to play in a few games last season, although, he didn’t show any growth which has cast doubt on his future with the organization.
Both quarterbacks have done their due diligence this offseason to prepare. Kelly worked out with Phil Simms this offseason and also had the fortune of seeking advice from his uncle Jim Kelly. Lynch has worked with Tom Brady’s ‘Body Guru’, Alex Guerrero.
Lynch has the most to prove out of the two quarterbacks when he starts his third season; and it could possibly be his last with the team. If Kelly can beat him out, the former Memphis quarterback may not have any chances left with Denver. In essence, this is truly a make-or-break season for him and the cards are in his hands. How he plays them, we will ultimately find out.
