A new era of Kentucky football

Saturday’s historic win in Gainesville has really opened up new horizons for the football program. There now seems to be a legitimate path to the 8+ win mark. A feat that hasn’t been accomplished for some time at UK and never under the leadership of Mark Stoops. This season really has the chance to become special.

Thankfully Kentucky’s next opponent is pretty terrible, so the risk of a hangover performance should be less of a threat. Murray State will come in at 0-2 on the season, including being blown out in the opener 49-10 against Southern Illinois.

In my opinion, this week should be used to tune up a few things, stay healthy, and get some back-ups in game reps. I would anticipate the starters will not see a ton of second half action. After that the Cats will head into an extremely important 3 game conference stretch against Miss State, South Carolina, and Texas A&M. This gauntlet of tough competition will ultimately determine how special this season can be.

Here is a break down of what I believe will happen the remainder of this year.

9/15 – Murray State – WIN

The Cats should steam roll the Racers. Kentucky is more talented at every position and Murray State has not shown any signs of being a formidable opponent.

9/22 – Mississippi State – WIN

This may be the most important game on UK’s remaining schedule (aside from Louisville, duh) A night game at home against a top 25 team is going to have the fan base jacked up. For that reason I am giving Kentucky a slight edge in this one. Win this game and it will make a major statement

9/29 South Carolina – WIN

Kentucky is a better team than USC. The Cats have dominated the Cocks in recent memory. They keep it rolling at Kroger Field.

10/6 @ Texas A&M – Loss

Jimbo Fisher already seems to have it going in College Station. Winning here on the road will be a tall task.

10/20 Vanderbilt – WIN

Vandy should not be able to keep Kentucky from running all over them. The Cats can only beat themselves in this one.

10/27 @ Missouri – Loss

Total guess here. Road games are just so difficult in the SEC so I think Kentucky may drop an unexpected one.

11/3 Georgia – Loss

Georgia is one of the best teams in the country. This will be a crucial game for the SEC East. I hope Kentucky can pull it off, but that is asking a lot.

11/10 @ Tennessee – WIN

The Vols haven’t looked very good, Kentucky cannot let this one slip.

11/17 Middle Tennessee State – WIN

Kentucky will beat up on two Tennessee teams in as many weeks. UK should use this as a tune up game to prepare for Louisville. Cats win big.

11/24 @ Louisville – WIN

The Cards have looked unimpressive the first two games of the season. I expect them to show improvement but they will not be able to stop Benny Snell.

I cannot believe I just predicted Kentucky Football to win NINE GAMES! And I don’t feel terrible about it. The three game stretch after Murray State will be such a major factor in this teams success. Win two of the three and this season will go from really good to great.
