It’s finally time for football! After West Virginia’s heartbreaking 30-14 loss at Iowa State, the Mountaineers sat out for their bye week. Was this extra week enough time to prepare for the Baylor Bears?
3 things/players to watch tonight:
1. West Virginia’s Pass Defense
Ranked 54th in the nation, the Mountaineers are letting their opponents throw an average of 218.5 yards per game, and the Bears have thrown for an average of 313.3 yards per game this season. The defense should be prepared for Charlie Brewer to attempt a lot of passes tonight, as he has thrown only three interceptions this season. This is the area the Mountaineers needed to improve the most coming out of Ames.
2. Will Grier and the Mountaineer Offense
Even though the Mountaineers were held to 152 total yards against Iowa State, Grier leads an offense that is still averaging 37 points and 320.5 passing yards per game. I think the offense will be explosive against the Bears defense, who has allowed 31 points per game and forced only six turnovers this season.
3. The Atmosphere in Milan Puskar Stadium
Even in the glory days of 4th ranked Baylor football, the Bears have never won a game in Morgantown. The atmosphere and rowdiness of Milan Puskar is arguably one of the best in the Big 12, and probably has a little to do with that. Because the Mountaineers are coming off of their first loss of the season followed by an excruciatingly long bye week, the fans will be fired up. Not to mention – kickoff is at 7pm. Things will get loud in Morgantown tonight.
