First and foremost…. #HornsDown. (oops, i just got ejected)

How about those ‘eers, y’all?

No. 7 West Virginia finally got the win they needed in Austin last weekend and climbed five spots in the AP Top 25. And if you’re anything like me, watching that game took about five years off your life expectancy.

With the Mountaineers down 41-34, Will Grier dropped an absolute dime to Gary Jennings from the 33-yard line with 24 seconds to go.

Dana Holgorsen showed true confidence in his quarterback, going for two with 16 seconds left in the game, despite two consecutive timeouts called by the Longhorns.

The Mountaineers made it look easy though, and Grier strolled right into the end zone on the keeper.

The Mountaineers hold off to beat Texas, and the Big 12 refs, 42-41.

A few things that stood out:

  1. Dana Holgorsen

I said last week that a loss in Austin could put Holgorsen on the hot seat, reflecting on his record vs. ranked opponents. He proved me completely wrong with the 2-point play call, and his demeanor during and after the game was everything, to say the least.

  1. West Virginia O-Line

After Yodny Cajuste’s ejection, Kelby Wickline stepped up immensely. Grier wasn’t sacked once, and the run game went for 233 yards on 33 carries.

  1. Mountaineer Run Game

That being said, the run had a standout performance. Kennedy McKoy and Martell Petteway came to play,  allowing the offense to play at their highest potential.

Celebration commenced, and West Virginia moved back into Big 12 Title talk. However, it’s time to get back to business – the Mountaineers face TCU at home this weekend. Dana Holgorsen says they will be ready for the Horned Frogs, though.

“We know what we’re getting with TCU this weekend, so we’ll be ready,” he said in a Tuesday press conference.

He spoke highly of the TCU defense, regardless of losing a few seniors.

“It doesn’t matter who plays these spots in a Gary Patterson defense,” he said, “they’re gonna be where they’re supposed to be, and they’re gonna play sound defense. Will probably be the stiffest test that we have had to date for our offense.”

The No. 7 Mountaineers face TCU Saturday, November 10th. Kickoff is set for 12 PM EST on FS1.
