LeBron James is a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. Let that sink in for a moment. In just under two months, James will be wearing the gold and purple and stepping on to Staples Center through the home locker room. If your a Lakers fan, it almost seems too good to be true. Some have very high expectations and some have the complete opposite. Stephen A. Smith thinks the Lakers will make the Western Conference Finals. Other members of the media barely think the Lakers will make the playoffs. Whatever the outcome of this season, one thing’s for sure and that is that the Lakers will have a new look roster for this upcoming year.

New Acquisitions

First and foremost, this summer the Lakers acquired the great player of all-time, LeBron James. The Lakers signed James to a four-year, $154 million contract. By signing a long term deal, James shows he is committed to the Lakers process. James has been to eight consecutive NBA Finals so clearly he has the capability to lead a team to the top.

Obviously, the headline of the offseason is landing James but the Lakers signed some key role players. All the role players who were signed were one-year contracts. This allows the Lakers to have the cap space to sign a superstar next offseason. The Lakers went out and signed Rajon Rondo, Lance Stephenson and JaVale McGee as great veterans for the Lakers. All three of these players provide great leadership and depth to the Lakers.

This season, Lakers fans should expect results and improvement. The Lakers can’t compete for championships with the roster they have now but they do have the potential to make a run in the postseason. Expect this season to be full of new experiences from this great young team.

My name is Matthew Shapiro and I am from a suburb northwest of Los Angeles. Since I was born, I have been a Lakers fan. As a fan of the Lakers, I’ve seen everything. I’ve seen them at their highs and at their lows. Besides the Lakers, I am also a huge Dodgers, Astros and Seahawks fan. When not watching, reading or breathing sports I love playing basketball and soccer. Another activity I enjoy doing is giving back to my community. For example, every week I help children with special needs play baseball. Please continue to follow my page and the Armchair All Americans site.
