Welcome to an all new weekly Overwatch News Recap.

Overwatch League

This week has been a bit quiet, but still with new additions for some teams. Next Monday, October 8, the free-agent signing window will open for all teams, including trades, and we can expect a lot more news then.

Florida promote Apply

Damon “Apply” Conti is the first player with a two-way contract for the Florida Mayhem. The two-way-players count towards the OWL roster limit of 12, with the same salary and benefits. At the same time, these players are also counting towards the eight-player limit for Contenders. They can play up to two matches per stage in the OWL, while also playing for their Contenders team. On the other hand, they cannot play OWL and Contenders matches in the same week. As soon as the players have played more than two matches during one stage, they are not allowed to play in Contenders anymore.

Apply is a projectile specialist and mostly known for his Genji and Pharah. He has been with Mayhem Academy since April this year and has shown “incredible potential”, as General Manager Matthew Akhavan put it.

With Sayaplayer and TviQ already on the roster, it might not seem likely that Apply will see a lot of time on the big stage at all. He probably knows this as well, as he did state on the Mayhem website, his focus now lies on improving. If he continues to grow, he can make a name of himself and earn a continuous spot on the Florida Mayhem roster.

Philadelphia Fusion promote Elk

Another two-way-contract incoming, this time for Eli “Elk” Gallagher, who plays for Fusion University, the Contenders team from Philadelphia Fusion. Elk has been showing great talent and also has a deep understanding of the game. He has often done VOD reviews of his team’s matches.

With Fusion University, he has also won Overwatch Contenders North America two times in a row, as well as the Overwatch PIT Championship S2 and BEAT Invitational S3. He is a flex support and can play a lot of different heroes, mostly known for Ana, Lucio and Mercy.

With Neptuno and Boombox, the Fusion already have two superb support players, but it will be interesting to see how Elk will fit into that roster. If nothing else, it will help a friendly competition for these spots, which should help all three by being the best player they can be.

San Francisco Shock promote Rascal

Rascal is also coming from the Shocks Contenders team, NRG Esports and is regarded as one of the most versatile DPS players, therefore he is a great asset for any team. He can play Sombra, Genji, Pharah, Junkrat and McCree to a very high level, but can also play Mei, Soldier, Tracer, Zarya or Widowmaker.

Rascal has started in Season 1 with the London Spitfire, but has been let go in order to downsize their roster and giving him a chance to be a starter on another team. Rascal instantly got picked up by the Dallas Fuel, but has been released only two month later, due to communication issues and lack of commitment.

His NRG Esports teammates have nothing bad to say about Rascal though. In a YouTube video, they talk about Rascal only positively. It will be great to see him back in Season 2 and interesting to see how they will split up playtime between their four DPS players.

Coach iOStux looking for team in OWL

Ridouan “ioStux” Bouzrou has left his previous team XL2 as a coach, to look for other opportunities. He is looking to be a head coach, and while he would like to do that for an OWL team, he is also not unwilling to work for another Contenders team.

He has been coaching for almost two years, western as well as Korean players, and his former team, XL2, made the second place in Contenders North America S2. If he is not coaching a team, he also spends time on creating helpful videos on YouTube or writing guides, like the latest comprehensive dive guide.

With so much knowledge and passion, it should just be a matter of time before he is being picked up by another team.

Rumors

The only thing left for this week are more rumors, as usual from Arran “halo” Brown.

Diya back to Shanghai Dragons?

After being released from his former team, it seems like they did over a number of their old players a chance to stay with the team. As far as we know, Diya has accepted this offer, but only as a sub for now.

Ado to Seoul Dynasty?

Diya’s ex-teammate, Ado, has been rumored to go to the Seoul Dynasty for a while now. It seems like he is still training with the Dynasty players at their team facility. Halo seems to think that we can expect an announcement as soon as the free agent signing window opens for all teams.

Paris franchise going for EU players?

It would be a welcoming change if the Paris franchise is indeed targeting EU players to fill their roster. From what has been rumored, players from Young & Beautiful as well as the main tank for Team France, Benbest, have been targeted.

Seeing the team has only managed a 5-8th place in the last two Contenders Europe Seasons, the team might be also looking for other players. It is unlikely that AKM or Unkoe will leave the Dallas Fuel, even though this would probably be the best outcome for the new franchise.

I was born in Germany and now live in the UK since 2015. I started to get into gaming with my first NES, playing Mario. I owned each of the Nintendo consoles after, until I got my first PC when I was around 14. Some years later, I played my first RTS (Command & Conquer) and FPS (Wolfenstein) games and never quit playing. I prefer team games and played an Unreal Tournament Mod called Deathball for over 10 years. Overwatch got me into the eSports scene, and was the motivator to change my path – from working in the IT to do something I love. Some of my all time favourite games are Soldier of Fortune II, Deathball, Warcraft 3, F.E.A.R, Zelda, Mario Kart and Overwatch. Besides gaming, I love to read and write and spending time with my cats.
