This past weekend very well might have been one of the most loaded opening weekends college football has seen. Big time matchups and near upsets covered the weekend from Thursday through Monday.

Notre Dame, LSU, Virginia Tech and Auburn all showed out for the most impressive victories. Miami and Florida State dropped the ball in primetime, while Texas made it clear that they are certainly Not Back.

Plenty of blue bloods thrashed lower opponents, while the Spartans and Nittany Lions struggled with Utah State and Appalachian State respectively. Let it be a warning to all Power 5 schools—do not schedule Appalachian State on Sept. 1.
