It’s week 11 of SEC football, and this week features an eight-game slate, featuring two matchups of top-25 teams battling for ranking and supremacy. Without any further ado, let’s take a look at what lies ahead!
In the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry, both are in the top 10. Georgia continues its reign at the No. 1 position, while Auburn is right back in the playoff hunt at No. 10. Auburn comes off a 42-27 victory on the road against the Texas A&M Aggies while ranked at No. 14. Georgia comes off a 24-10 victory against South Carolina at home after being named to the illustrious No. 1 rank in the CFP’s inaugural poll. The Bulldogs and Tigers will do battle to test the waters with major playoff implications looming.
No. 2 Alabama @ No. 16 Mississippi State
This is the second game this week to feature two top-25 teams doing battle. Mississippi State, ranked 16th, is coming off a victory at home against UMass, winning 34-23. Alabama is still ranked No. 2, and believe they should be the undisputed kings of college football. They made that statement last week against LSU in a 24-10 victory at home. Will a victory against Mississippi State be enough to get to the top?
Riding a 3-2 SEC record and 6-3 record on the season so far, LSU once again finds its way on the bottom of the top-25. The Tigers are looking to rebound from a 24-10 loss to Alabama against an Arkansas team that is in the bottom of the SEC West and looking for its second conference win this season, going 1-4 up to this point.
Louisiana @ Ole Miss
Ole Miss is riding the thrill of victory after defeating the Kentucky Wildcats 37-34, getting their second SEC win this season. This bumps them to second-to-last in the West, and look to continue going upward against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, who come off a 19-14 victory of their own last week against the South Alabama Jaguars, bringing them to 4-4 thus far on the season.
At the beginning of the season, this game was shaping up to be one of the more exciting games this season. My, oh my how the tide has turned. Florida is coming off an atrocious performance against Missouri, and that’s that “atrocious” is the only word coming to mind right now. South Carolina comes off a 24-10 loss on the road to the new kings of college football, the Georgia Bulldogs. Will Florida’s internal struggles continue, or will they finally shake off the cobwebs against a stout South Carolina team?
This game is one of the more interesting games so far, this season. Interesting, in that it features a Vanderbilt team who has absolutely struggled against conference opponents this season so far, going 0-5 until now. Kentucky is 3-3, and coming off a 37-34 upset loss to Ole Miss. Does Kentucky go 4-3 in SEC play, or will Vanderbilt finally get the winless monkey off their backs?
New Mexico @ Texas A&M
Texas A&M has been on a slight freefall this season. After starting off seemingly as the biggest threat to Alabama, they now stand at 5-4 on the season, with a 3-3 SEC record so far. With the future of Kevin Sumlin up in the air for 2018, this is an extremely important game for the Aggies. The Aggies are playing host to New Mexico, who are coming off a 24-10 loss to USU.
The Missouri Tigers are coming off the most dominant win of their season against Florida, and finally have their first conference win of the season. They look to continue that trend against a continuously struggling Tennessee Volunteers team who is coming off a win against USM. They also look for their first conference win this season against a team who was formerly in that position.
