Offense

Positives: The Minnesota Vikings were able to capitalize against an injury-riddled Green Bay secondary with quarterback Kirk Cousins passing for 342 yards and three touchdowns to Dalvin Cook, Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen. Thielen and Diggs showed once again why they are the one of the top wide receiver duos in the league, combining for 16 receptions, 202 yards and two touchdowns. Tight end Kyle Rudolph complemented the duo, with seven receptions (tied for his season high) and had 63 receiving yards. The last time Minnesota had a passing attack this good was 2009 when they reached the NFC Championship.

Negatives: The run game struggled yet again, which has become a common theme during the 2018 season. Although the Vikings were able to win yet again without rushing for over 100 yards as a team, this will be something that the team needs to address if they want to make it far in the playoffs.

Defense

Positives: The Vikings defense appears to have recovered from their struggles early in the season and were able to play a spectacular game against superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers. They were able to limit Aaron Rodgers to 198 passing yards, only his second game with less than 200 passing yards all season. Minnesota also was able to pressure Rodgers all night long recording four sacks, including two by first-year Vikings, Sheldon Richardson.

Negatives: The injuries on the Minnesota defense are starting to add up quickly. Going into the regular season, the secondary appeared to be a position where the Vikings had more than enough depth. Safety Andrew Sendejo, who has been inactive since Week 5, was placed on Injured Reserve. It will now be up to Anthony Harris to fill in for Sendejo for the remainder of the season. Star cornerback Xavier Rhodes exited late in the game with a hamstring injury that didn’t look good, but ultimately time will tell how serious his injury is.

Special Teams

Positives: Marcus Sherels played brilliantly Sunday night, recovering a crucial fumble on a Packers muffed punt late in the 4th quarter in addition to a 20-yard punt return in the second half.

Negatives: The Vikings struggled once again on field goals, going one for three, leaving crucial points on the board. In the punting game, Minnesota gave up a 23-yard punt return to cornerback Tramon Williams. Despite, Minnesota’s offense and defense high level of play they clearly need to improve their special teams play.
