The active roster of Bellator MMA grew by one on Thursday as Sergio Pettis, formerly of the UFC, signed a deal to compete in Bellator.

Reports did not indicate a definite date, venue, and opponent for Pettis’ Bellator MMA debut.

He last fought in the UFC back in September against Tyson Nam, notching a unanimous decision victory for the Flyweight turned Bantamweight contender and his 18th career win.

Pettis’ professional mixed martial arts career has spanned just over eight years.

Pettis’ career so far:

He began his time as a fighter on Sept. 10, 2011 vs. Kyle Vivian during CFC 7 in Winnipeg, MB.

That night, Pettis scored a first-round TKO victory due to a head kick against Vivian in his first fight as a Bantamweight contender.

He followed it up with another TKO victory by head kick, this time in the second round of his fight against Tony Zelinski in NAFC: Unleashed in Milwaukee that November.

After, Pettis eventually ran his string of victories to nine in a row, winning by submission (three times), TKO (once) and decision (five times).

At 9-0, Sergio Pettis got his chance in the UFC in November of 2013 during UFC 167 against Will Campuzano via unanimous decision for his sixth such victory by this method.

Pettis had what was, to that point, his highest profile match in his career on Jan. 25, 2014 in the featured FS1 prelim of UFC on FOX 10 against Alex Caceres, losing via third-round submission due to rear-naked choke.

In recent times, Pettis has posted a 7-4 record in his last 11 UFC fights, ending his stint as a UFC competitor with that win against Tyson Nam in Mexico City back in September.

During that 11-fight stretch, Pettis main evented a UFC show once, which would prove to be the only time he has main evented a major MMA show to date.

In August of 2017, Pettis fought to a unanimous decision against Brandon Moreno in the main event of an FS1 UFC Fight Night in Mexico City.

As previously mentioned, nothing has been confirmed about Pettis’ Bellator MMA debut, but we’ll keep you posted.

Best of luck to Sergio Pettis as he continues his MMA career in Bellator.
