Today will be big Kentucky Wildcats basketball. 2019 guard Tyrese Maxey will be making his commitment this afternoon. With Quade Green being the only returning point guard a commitment and possible reclassification from Maxey could be huge. First, we still need his word that he’ll be coming to Kentucky. We’ll see if John Calipari still has that recruiting magic in him.
When’s his decision?
Maxey will be making his college announcement at 4:00 p.m. via his Twitter account. Kentucky is one of his final five schools he will be deciding between. Michigan, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, and Texas are the other four he’s considering. Between those five schools Kentucky is projected to be the favorite. We’ll see if he’s ready to Strive for Nine and come join Big Blue Nation.
Who is Tyrese Maxey?
Maxey is a 6’3 185 pound point guard out of Texas. He is great at attacking the basket and finishing around the rim. He isn’t as quick as De’Aaron Fox but he attacks the basket in a similar way as Fox. Maxey is also really good at finding others and sharing the ball. With the shooters and athletes we have coming in adding him would be a huge pick up.
Where will he go?
Maxey’s top five schools are all great options, but Kentucky is probably the biggest name. Michigan wouldn’t be a bad choice after making the NCAA Championship this past season, but they don’t get players NBA ready like Calipari does. Michigan State and Tom Izzo is one of the best programs in the country, but they aren’t Kentucky. As of right now, I think in the end Maxey will be coming to join Kentucky.
We’ll see if mine and the rest of the recruiting world was right predicting Kentucky. With him joining the team he’d be a great addition to the roster. We’re waiting on you Tyrese… See you at 4!
