Two big targets are still in play for the Jayhawks after Achiuwa declares for Memphis.
On Friday, 5-star power forward Precious Achiuwa announced his decision to play for the Memphis Tigers over the Kansas Jayhawks and others. The announcement now gives Memphis the undisputed No. 1 recruiting class in the country.
The options are running low for Bill Self and staff to bolster this 2019-20 roster but there are still two major recruits yet to make a decision and both appear to be leaning towards Kansas.
5-star guard R.J. Hampton is set to make his decision any day now and things appear to be looking great for KU’s chances.
Hampton has a final list of KU, Memphis, Kentucky, and Texas Tech. But for many weeks thishas been thought to be a race between KU and Memphis. Now that Memphis picked up three commitments in the last week from three guards, the odds have shifted even more in KU’s favor.

Hampton hasn’t set an official date and time of announcement but according to his Twitter post on Monday referencing his bio, he says that “your question will be answered soon.”
Despite the ambiguity, it is clear he is moving closer to a decision – perhaps sooner than originally thought. Last week we wrote about how him moving up his decision from July to late May is only a good thing for the Jayhawks’ chances. If he’s pushing it up again, then one could assume those chances are only increasing.
The Jayhawks hold a 75% chance to land Hampton according to both Rivals and 247sports. The top experts on each site (Corey Evans and Eric Bossi of Rivals and Evan Daniels and Jerry Meyer of 247sports) have all declared KU as the pick.
Top-50 recruit Jalen Wilson has officially opened up his recruitment now that John Beilein has left Michigan to coach the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The 6-foot-8 small forward is a terrific outside shooter and also happens to be close friends with Hampton. KU was on his list of finalists before he declared for Michigan and Wilson has said that he is looking at KU – along with Florida, North Carolina, and Oklahoma State.
KU has already picked up three Crystal Ball projections according to 247sports (including one from Evan Daniels and Jerry Meyer) and that will likely increase due to his connection with Hampton. Not to mention KU could desperately use an outside shooting skillset like he possesses.
Adding Hampton and Wilson will give Bill Self a top 10 recruiting class and elevate KU to one of the favorites to cut down the nets in Atlanta next year.
