John Beilein has done the unthinkable yet again and it’s safe to say the hype train is building once again around the Michigan basketball program following their national championship loss to Villanova just a year ago.

The Wolverines avenged their defeat Wednesday night as they simply dismantled Villanova, 73-46 in their own house.

So what exactly did we learn from Michigan’s 73-46 win over the Wildcats?

Seniors stepped up

Michigan has has reloaded after losing three of their top players. Moe Wagner, Muhammad Ali Abdur-Rakhman and Duncan Robinson are certainly going to be missed, but it seems the Wolverines have found a way to move on. Senior Charles Matthews has stepped up big time early in the season for the Wolverines with double figures scoring in each of their first three games. He should be on track to contend for Big Ten Player of the Year.

Dominant young faces

Ignas Brazdeikis will be Big Ten Freshman of the Year. The Lithuanian-Canadian forward is everything we expected him to be: fast, physical, athletic, and most importantly, cocky. Michigan has had a love-affair with European-born players as of late, and Brazdeikis fits right into this mold. He has also reached double figures in scoring in each of his three games this season and his confidence seems to be contagious.

Top-level coaching

John Beilein has eased his way into the conversation for top coaches in college basketball. Sure, there’s Coach K, Coach Kalipari, Coach Izzo, and Coach Williams, but John Beilein has consistently been solid in March and gotten the best out of his players, year-in and year-out. With a marquee win this early in the season, Beilein has set his team up for another impressive year of basketball in Ann Arbor.
