South Carolina will finish off their SEC schedule against Florida in the Swamp tomorrow. The Gamecocks can move up to third in the SEC East with a win. South Carolina will also become bowl eligible with a win. The win is obviously the most important goal for this game, but I want to see three specific things from the Gamecocks.

Jake Bentley

I want to see Jake Bentley go off. He threw for two touchdowns and 363 yards, which is probably his best road performance of his career. He needs to have a similar performance if he wants to prove that he can win in big games on the road. This is a statement game for Bentley and for Muschamp. If the Gamecocks want the media to take them seriously, they have to be able to pull off an upset. South Carolina has beaten one ranked team under Muschamp. Bentley is a big part of that.

No more zone

I want to see South Carolina play more man to man defense. They played zone coverage against Ole Miss and the Rebels scored 37 in three quarters. When they played man to man defense at the end, they were able to hold Ole Miss on key downs. They need to be able to limit the pass game and contain quarterback Felipe Franks if they want to win on defense.

Deebo “special” once again

The final thing I want to see is Deebo Samuel break off another kick return touchdown. He did it last week on a kick that wasn’t even to him, but if he returns another one, he will have five total kick return touchdowns. That would be the SEC career record for kick return touchdowns, and it would make NFL scouts see him as the next Devin Hester, who was known for his return skills.

These are three things (besides a win) that I would like to see from South Carolina when they face Florida. Muschamp and this team can make a statement by pulling off a win against a ranked team on the road for the first time in his tenure.

My name is Noah Patheja. I am currently a Sophomore at the University of South Carolina. I also write for the Daily Gamecock, which is the student paper at USC. I am the youngest of four children, and the only child in my family to not go to college in Alabama, even though my family has no connection to the state of Alabama. I have wanted to go to South Carolina since I was nine, and I was happy to accomplish my life goal of attending my favorite university. I haven’t followed football closely my whole life, but ever since I was 11, I have been fully invested in the Gamecocks, including having season tickets in 2014. A fun fact about me is that my family and I used to be Clemson fans a long time ago when we first moved to South Carolina.
