If the Philadelphia 76ers blueprint for the offseason is to keep Tobias Harris, Jimmy Butler and JJ Redick, then they will need to find low-cost players to fill out the roster.

What’s the best way to add highly-talented players without having to commit too much salary cap space to them? You probably guessed correctly, it’s the NBA draft.

As it currently stands, the Sixers have the 24th overall pick in the first round. They have four picks (Nos. 33, 34, 42 and 54) in the second round.

With those selections, expect first year general manager Elton Brand to look for certain skill set’s in the player’s he decides to add to the team.

What to look for

The 76ers are looking for players who can immediately contribute to the team, per Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Among other things, they want that player to stretch the floor and bring a defensive mind-set.

Look for Cameron Johnson out of North Carolina as a possible fit at No. 24.

He’s an older player in this draft (23) so he might be more ready to take on a role this season. Plus, teams in the lottery like to go for younger players because of their high ceilings so he could fall to them.

Johnson could play a useful role because of his shooting. He shot a career-best 45.7 percent on 3-pointers, which was seventh in the nation last year.

Every team in the league is looking to add shooting, and the Sixers aren’t any different.

In addition to his high-shooting percentage, he’s known for playing good defense. His overall two-way game could add much needed depth to the bench.

Aside from wing players, a backup center and another shooting guard should be considered with their picks.

Options Galore

It’s hard to believe the Sixers will keep those exact picks. The organization should be looking to make deals to move up or down the draft throughout the night.

Maybe Brand intends to package some of their second-round picks and the 24th to move up in the first round.

Perhaps he wants to add another first-round pick sometime after 24 and will use their second-round picks to do so.

Any way you want to look at it, the Sixers have holes they need to fill. They have the flexibility to move around the draft board to get the players they want. (Outside of moving up into the lottery).

Addressing some of their needs in this draft is pivotal to avoid another second-round playoff loss next season.
