For some reason, a large portion of the Rutgers fan base believes Penn State and Rutgers are rivals. This an absolutely absurd take, considering the lopsided nature of these two schools’ histories.

To put things into perspective, I’ve compiled the most striking numbers that make comparing Penn State and Rutgers complete lunacy.

26-2

This is the all-time series record between the Nittany Lions and the Scarlet Knights in football. Rutgers has never won two games against Penn State in a row,

11

This is the current win streak that Penn State football has over Rutgers. The last time Rutgers football defeated Penn State, you couldn’t have seen the score online, because the internet hadn’t even been invented yet. Rutgers football’s last win over Penn State was in 1988.

.499

This is Rutgers football’s all-time win percentage. Yes, the “birthplace of college football” has lost more games in its storied history than it has won.

In comparison, Penn State’s all-time win percentage is .699, good for 10th best in the nation.

1525

This will be the number of days since Rutgers has scored a touchdown against Penn State when the two teams will kick off their 2018 game on Saturday.

9

This is the total amount of points that Rutgers has scored against Penn State in their last three meetings, all of which were from field goals. Penn State has scored 102 points against Rutgers in this time span.

3

This is the total number of first-round draft picks that Rutgers has produced in its history. Penn State has had 37 players selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Rutgers isn’t the little brother of Penn State. Labeling it as so would actually be disrespectful to the Nittany Lions. Rutgers is that weird home-schooled kid down the road that smells weird (I’m talking about you, New Jersey Turnpike).

Passionate love for all Penn State sports, the New York Yankees, the Baltimore Ravens, Washington Capitals and Brooklyn Nets. I provide the un-edited, un-apologetic opinion on the sports world that you’ve been waiting for.
