For most of its entirety, the NBA has had one question that has been asked for years. Who is the greatest of all time? Many people will say LeBron James, others will say Michael Jordan. Some will even say others like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or Kobe Bryant. In reality, this debate is one of the most pointless and meaningless debates in NBA History.
Why does it matter?
NBA fans thoroughly enjoy debating which player is the greatest and why they are. The truth is there is no definitive answer to this question. There are many reasons why people think a particular player is the G.O.A.T. Many will say Michael Jordan for reasons because he is 6-0 in the finals plus other reasons. Others will say it’s LeBron because he has been to eight straight NBA Finals and much more. Some will even say it’s Bill Russell because he won 11 titles in his 13-year playing career, etc.
No true judging
In hindsight, there is no rubric or objective way of determining who is the G.O.A.T. The answer is based on personal preferences.
Another reason why the debate is stupid is because people will uplift one player while slandering another player. When LeBron beat the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals, Kobe Bryant put out a tweet.
With all the different players coming into the league, the different eras and the way the league has changed, there is no way to determine who is the greatest basketball player of all time. Can we just stop with the debate and admire the greatness of all of these players? So the closest thing to a answer to the question, who is the G.O.A.T is that we will never truly know.
