The Aggies have been off to a slow start, going 7-7 and 1-2 in SEC play. The new year marked the beginning of conference play, and the Aggies lost a close one to Arkansas 71-73. TJ Starks’ 23 points weren’t enough to carry the Aggies to victory over the Razorbacks, but he has been a key leader for the Aggies so far.

The Aggies’ challenges continued after the loss to Arkansas, travelling to #18 Kentucky and losing 74-85. Even though the Aggies jumped out to a 10-0 lead, maintaining it over the Wildcats would not be an easy task. The first half ended with a 46-34 Kentucky lead, but the Aggies wouldn’t go away in the second half and it was not a clear Kentucky victory until the final buzzer sounded.

After starting 0-2 in the SEC, the Aggies needed a win to get the season back on track. TJ Starks made sure of it. Texas A&M took on Alabama on the road, keeping pace with the Crimson Tide despite shooting 3-19 from behind the arc. Minimal turnovers (three) kept the Aggies in the game, down only 78-80 with 3.4 seconds left in the game. The ball was inbounded to TJ Starks, who took three dribbles and miraculously shot the ball off the backboard and in for the 81-80 win. Starks came up clutch with the game-winner, but Josh Nebo had a huge game with 21 points, seven rebounds and four blocks, making his presence known both on offense and defense.

The Alabama game was a huge victory for the Aggies, who picked up their first conference win and gained momentum moving forward. Five of the next six games are at home, starting with #14 Auburn. The Tigers visit Reed Arena at 6PM on Wednesday.
