The Indianapolis Colts had signed Veteran CB Antonio Cromartie for a few weeks due to the injuries of Vontae Davis, Clayton Geathers, and Darius Butler. He was released on October 4th. It seemed that he was released due to poor coverage and tackling skills.
Last week his wife, Terricka, spoke out. Terricka posted an Instagram update after seeing comments from Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay giving his input on the league wide national anthem. Irsay stated, “Football stadiums are the ‘wrong venue’ for players to be kneeling during the national anthem to show their displeasure in police brutality and racial oppression.” The Instagram post was later taken down but is read as follows:
“You are Nothing More than an Entertainer. Just Shut and do what we say. You have No rights as along as you are working for me.. there are other places for you to fight and stand for what you believe.”
The post later added:”One things for sure I know my husband was told Not to take a Knee and he went with his heart and he took one. And that cost him his Job.. and Clearly this Statement backs that up… Just a Paid To put on a show.”
She states that the reason for the release was the fact that he was the only member of the Colts organization that had kneeled during the Anthem. This also comes days after TE Dwayne Allen received criticism for kneeling during the anthem.
