From Thursday to Saturday night, the North Carolina Tar Heels saw their fair share of excitement in the 2017 NFL Draft. UNC football saw 6 players drafted from the first to the seventh round, along with a few immediate free agency signings when the draft ended.

UNC’s Newest Additions to the NFL

Mitchell Trubisky

  • When: #2 Pick
  • Team: Chicago Bears
  • Position: QB

The Bears recently let go their long time, underproducing quarterback Jay Cutler and signed former NC State standout Mike Glennon to a nice deal. Trubisky was a surely interesting pick and you have to think the Bears want to put him to good use early. He will have plenty of room to grow with this organization.

Nazair Jones

  • When: #102 pick
  • Team: Seattle Seahawks
  • Position: DT

Naz was a force at UNC, with a strong core and solid foot speed. The Seahawks are known for building defensive players into the best assets possible and this is as good of a chance for something special as they’re going to get in the 3rd round.

Mack Hollins

  • When: #118 pick
  • Team: Philadelphia Eagles
  • Position: WR

Mack Hollins is as fast as it gets at 6’4″, with an extremely solid work ethic. This former walk-on has a ton of potential and could look to grow alongside the Eagles’ young standout QB Carson Wentz.

Ryan Switzer

  • When: #133 pick
  • Team: Dallas Cowboys
  • Position: WR

Switzer is known for his agility, quickness, and knack for big time return plays. The Cowboys are building something special with their young offense and this pick will fit in just fine alongside fellow receivers Dez Bryant and Cole Beasley.

TJ Logan

  • When: #179 pick
  • Team: Arizona Cardinals
  • Position: RB

TJ Logan has the makings to be a solid scatback in the NFL, with quickness and great receiving ability. He will have plenty of time to learn under Arizona’s star back David Johnson and get good reps behind QB Carson Palmer.

Elijah Hood

  • When: #242 pick
  • Team: Las Vegas Raiders
  • Position: RB

Elijah fell pretty far in the draft, after his surprise announcement to enter it earlier this season. However, the Raiders are an interesting landing spot for Hood, with their recent signing of Marshawn Lynch. It could be an incredible learning experience Hood, where he can sit behind the best in the league for a couple seasons.

Free Agent Signings

Des Lawrence

  • Team: Detroit Lions
  • Position: CB

Bug Howard

  • Team: Indianapolis Colts
  • Position: WR

Lucas Crowley

  • Team: Arizona Cardinals
  • Position: C

I am nothing but a southern boy, from the prototype of small town USA; raised on sweet tea, good manners, and basketball. I modeled my game as a averagely athletic, Tyler Hansbrough with a jumpshot and it earned me a few emails from D-3 schools, so I write now. I attend the University of North Carolina and treat our teams like royalty. Go Heels, Go America, baby!
