Mississippi State/Oklahoma Round three looked a lot like Sunday’s battle, because OU’s hitting was absent, and the Bulldogs played like a team ready to make a run in the Super Regional.
It was reported that Kyler Murray and Steele Walker might be available, but neither played on Monday night, and now the Sooners will spend the offseason wondering “what if” their two best players could have been on the field for just one more game.
OU scored their only run off of a Justin Mitchell ground out, but after that the bats looked flat, and Mississippi State continued their hot streak.
It was 3-1 Bulldogs heading into the eighth, but Jordan Westburg brought in two on a single, and Jake Mangum blasted a two run homer to seal the game at a final score of 8-1.
The Sooners went with Levi Prater to start, who was pulled after 4.2 innings. The real damage to the Sooners was dealt by Austin Hansen, who allowed four runs on five hits in just 20 pitches.
Mississippi State will move on to the Super Regional next weekend and will take on Vanderbilt.
