Regardless of what else is happening in the sports world, a #SpursUp tweet from Will Muschamp will always make South Carolina Gamecocks Twitter go crazy. An unexpected one came from Coach Boom during the middle of South Carolina’s baseball game on Saturday.
Mecose Todd, a 2020 running back out of Villa Rica, Ga., committed to the Gamecocks during his first visit to campus on Saturday. Todd is the first commitment of the 2020 class.
Todd’s highlights are something fun to watch. He has great vision and gets up and down the field fast. He doesn’t go down on first contact, either – there were multiple plays where a defender was in position to make a play for a loss, but Todd would shrug off the tackle or make a move for a five-yard gain. A dominant running back in every phase is something that South Carolina hasn’t seen since Mike Davis. Todd could be the next big-time running back to play for the Gamecocks.
He isn’t currently rated by any major recruiting outlets, but as a sophomore Todd touts offers from national blue-bloods including Southern Cal, Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee. Once the 2020 class is fully evaluated, expect him to be a 4-star prospect who will be firmly in the discussion of receiving a fifth star over the course of his junior and senior seasons. Todd has already been invited to the Nike Opening Finals as well as the Under Armor All-American Game camp. When everything is said and done, don’t be surprised if Mecose Todd is one of Muschamp’s highest rated commitments during his time at South Carolina.
While fans are still three to four years from seeing how Todd will perform at the collegiate level, his commitment is a great start to the 2020 recruiting class for Will Muschamp and the Gamecocks.
