Udoka, just like Brown, joins the Sixers after spending several years as an assistant under Gregg Popovich.
He will replace Monty Williams, who left the team after one season to take the Phoenix Suns head coaching position.
Restacking the Pipeline
Williams isn’t the only assistant the Sixers have lost in the recent past.
Similarly to Williams, Lloyd Pierce left the Sixers as the lead assistant to became the Atlanta Hawks head coach in 2018.
Assistant Billy Lange left the organization back in March to replace Phil Martelli as head coach at St. Joseph’s University.
Lange joined the team prior to the 2013 season as a player development coach.
Another Spurs assistant added
Udoka isn’t the only Spurs assistant coach to accept a role with the Sixers.
Cameron Hodges will join the team, presumably as the shooting coach. Previously, he had that role with the Spurs for the past three seasons.
The Sixers decided not to bring back NBA veteran John Townsend, who held the position prior.
Hodges will most likely be working closely with All-Star Ben Simmons on developing his outside shot due to the lack of progress last season.
