“Mama Said Knock You Out!” are the familiar lyrics that helped Serena Williams’ new commercial go viral.
These are the lyrics spoken in a CHASE Bank commercial starring 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams and her daughter, Olympia. The ad came out ahead of her return to the US Open in New York since having a daughter last year.
It sparked interest not only for the rap song that was so calmly spoken but to the mothers whose strength is often measured by what they can and cannot do. The hashtag “ThisMama” has gone viral on Twitter as working moms tell their stories and feel inspired.

Many believed due to the complications of giving birth that Serena may not have returned to tennis the same as she left. Of course, no one is ever truly the same after having a child, but Serena has been proving doubters wrong.
She has trusted her body taking time off and entering in tournaments only when she was ready. Only absent from the Australian Open, Williams entered three of four Grand Slam tournaments in 2018:
French Open: Withdrew in the fourth round due to injury (pectoral muscle)
Wimbledon: Made the Finals; Lost to Angelique Kerber in straight sets
US Open: Ranked #16 (main draw set to begin Aug. 27)
Even at the French Open, she made a statement with her outfit for all the moms in the world. Williams mentioned the catsuit was for “all the moms out there that had a tough pregnancy and have to come back and try to be fierce, in a middle of everything. That’s what this represents. You can’t beat a catsuit, right?”
This Mama has taken the tennis world, fans and moms across the globe by storm. And if you dare stop her: Mama’s Gonna Knock You Out!
