The New Orleans’ defense finished Week 7 ranked as the 31st worst defense in the NFL, but may have the opportunity to improve in the upcoming weeks. For the first time in the regular season, rookie defensive lineman Sheldon Rankins is set to practice on Wednesday. Rankins was placed on short term IR during training camp when he went down with a broken left fibula (leg). He was the Saints’ 1st-round draft pick this year and was set to make a big difference upfront for New Orleans.

Other notable injuries on defense that are set to return soon:

CB Delvin Breaux – (fibula break)

LB Dannell Ellerbe – (quadriceps)

DE Paul Kruger – (back)
