Week three of the RLCS Season 6 was one where statements needed to be proven. Mid-way into the RLCS this is where numbers matter the most, especially for those teams who are in the on the lower tiers with no wins. This week we got to see G2 Esports and Ghost Gaming play two matches each and let’s just say it went better for one than it did for the other.

Week 3 Breakdown

G2 Esports (3) vs Ghost Gaming (2)

The first match-up of the day brought us to a game five, which is no surprise considering Ghost has played a total of three matches prior to this and all of them have ended in game fives as well. Showing that they are definitely a top competitor, they battled back and forth in this match. Ultimately losing 3-2. However, both teams went without scoring for a round during games two and three, only to have Ghost win game four with a 1-4 victory.

Winner: G2 Esports

FlyQuest (1) vs Evil Geniuses (3)

FlyQuest has yet to put up a victory in this series but you can’t fault them for not trying. They’ve lost their last two matches in this series with a 1-3 count and this one is no different. Evil Geniuses took game one with a three goal shutout. FQ would get their only win of this round by putting up 5 goals to Evil Geniuses’ four. With a bit of hope behind them, game three went to OT after 3-3 in regulation time, followed by an EG goal two minutes into overtime.

Winner: Evil Geniuses

NRG Esports (3) vs Ghost Gaming (2)

For the fifth time we see Ghost go to a Game 5 to determine a winner and unfortunately, they fell short for the second time during week three. It did look promising with victories in both games one and two. After regaining their composure, NRG came out ahead with 3 victories. Game three (3-2), Game four (2-1), and Game five (3-2)

Winner: NRG Esports

Cloud9 (3) vs Allegiance (0)

C9 absolutely dominated this match-up against Allegiance. Game one ended with a four nil result, which seemed to demoralize ALG. Game two was a decent back and forth with C9 winning by a single goal. ALG ended the match-up with points on the scoreline, scoring against the leaders of the North American rankings, C9. But ALG would be sweep losing three straight matches.

Winner: Cloud9

G2 Esports (3) vs Rogue (1)

Rogue has yet to win during RLCS Season 6 with 3 losses under their belt. They’ll have to play their best to move up in the standings. They won game one by a single goal, only to lose the following three games. Rogue managed to score at least one goal in each game. However, they would fall short and G2 Esports would take this convincingly.

Winner: G2 Esports

NRG Esports (1) vs Evil Geniuses (3)

With the final match of the evening, we’re presented with the second match for both of these teams. Although they both won their previous matches in the week, EG came out victorious. Both squads have been performing very similarly throughout this competition so we expected to see a lot of overtime decisions, and that’s we got. NRG scored an impressive four goals to EG’s one during game one. This left everyone thinking that the momentum turn be in their favor. However, EG regrouped and won every match after that but all were determined with close scores. Game two went into overtime, Evil Geniuses won 2-1. Game three would be a two nil win and game four would be a 2-1 overtime win.

Winner: Evil Geniuses

Looking ahead, during week four Rogue has two games, one against Allegiance and the other against NRG, although we’re all excited to see how they perform, we hoped to see Rogue versus FlyQuest this week to see the two bottom teams determine who the first to get a victory would be. Assuming they lose, we’ll get to see that during week five but there is still hope to get that changed out this coming week.

We also have G2 facing off against C9 in week four, which should be an amazing match-up considering these two lead the standings. C9 has two matches once again this week and their first match is against FlyQuest, who has yet to win a match.

North American Standings as of Week 3:

  1. Cloud9 4-0 (12-2)
  2. G2 Esports 4-0 (12-4)
  3. NRG Esports 3-1 (10-7)
  4. Evil Geniuses 3-1 (9-7)
  5. Allegiance 1-3 (4-11) ↗
  6. Ghost Gaming 1-2 (7-8) ↘
  7. Rogue 0-3 (3-9)
