There are some players in the league that are known for more than just what they bring on the court. It’s the things they do off the court, and the love they show to the fans that makes them special.

For five years, Kent Bazemore brought a different dynamic to the Hawks culture. He’s embraced the city of Atlanta since his arrival. Having annual UNO tournaments, supporting other Atlanta teams, interacting with fans on social media, and always handing out a bin full of his shoes pre-game. It felt like a special connection between Bazemore and Atlanta, and the city will miss him after he was traded to the Trailblazers. Here are some of Bazemore’s most memorable moments as a Hawk.

Game winner against the Pelicans

The Hawks didn’t win a lot of games in 2017, but their fight was unmatched. The Pelicans led in this game most of the night, but the Hawks fought back in the 4thquarter. They traded blows the entire fourth, and with second left the Hawks had a chance to end the game. With the ball in his game, it  was up to Kent to save the day.

It’s safe to say he delivered.

All his chasedown blocks

Kent was a solid defender throughout his tenure in Atlanta, and his best moments were his chasedown blocks. He’s had a handful of them with the team, so we might have to ask him which one is favorite.

Shutting down the “tanking” noise

During the 2017-18 season, there was a strict divide between fans wanting the team to lose games on purpose. The Hawks weren’t having the best year, and some fans thought that they should lose to get a better draft pick. One night in particular, they won a game and Hawks twitter was in shambles. They didn’t understand why the Hawks won that game, and Kent picked up on it (he deleted the tweets so I can’t show you). There were definitely a lot of people in his mentions, both for and against tanking.  Thanks to Bazemore for showing some of the fans that losing games on purpose is never a good thing in the league.

#BazeGaze

The thing Hawks fan will miss most is his infamous look into the camera after a Hawks win. It became a long running meme, and even his teammates started to pick up on the look.

Kent’s energy and commitment to the Hawks will be remembered, and he will always have a place in Atlanta.

THANK YOU KENT BAZEMORE.

Mediocrity and heartbreak. That’s what your life consists of being an Atlanta sports fan, and I’ve lived it for years now. The Atlanta Hawks have been labeled as mediocre for 10 years straight. Even when they were one of the best teams in 2015, they were swept by the Cavaliers in the Conference Finals. The Falcons are nothing different. Mediocre enough to get to the playoffs, and then vulnerable enough to break your hearts at the end. I know you watched the Super Bowl. So as an Atlanta fan you’re either going to get one or the other. It’s sad to say, but I’m numb to it. One day we’ll break this curse, the question is when?
