Ohio State‘s football schedule has some great games this fall with TCU, Penn State, Michigan State and Michigan. In these games many great coaches are on the sideline making important play calls and adjustments.

Nebraska, Minnesota, Oregon State and Purdue have impressive young coaches who are trying make their mark in college football as well. With Maryland, Indiana, Rutgers and Tulane their coaches have been wearing the headset for some years now, but just cant get over the hump.

Let’s look at the guys who will be wearing the headset against the Buckeyes in 2018.

Coaches who could be on the “Hot Seat” after 2018:

Tulane head coach Willie Fritz

Willie Fritz took over the Green Wave in 2016 and has struggled since. Fritz is currently 9-20 overall with Tulane and it doesn’t get easier in 2018. With the Buckeyes on the schedule, look for his team to play hard and give it their all but the talent is just not there.

Rutgers head coach Chris Ash

Chris Ash was Ohio State’s defensive coordinator in 2014-15 during the Buckeyes’ run to the National Championship. Ash took over the Scarlet Knights in 2015 and has struggled but his defense hasn’t been too bad, despite getting blown out every season by the Buckeyes since taking over.

He is 6-18 overall and could very well be on the hot seat if Rutgers fails to make a bowl game in 2018.

Maryland head coach D.J. Durkin

Durkin is a good coach that has had some bad luck since being named the head coach of the Terps. He is 10-15 overall as Maryland’s head coach.

After a solid first season with a bowl game appearance, Durkin’s second season started strong but ended poorly. After the victory against Texas, Maryland got hit hard by the injury bug.

Durkin is a very likable guy but coaching in the Big Ten East could very well put him on the hot seat if they do not start winning in College Park.

Coaches who are just getting started:

Oregon State head coach Jonathan Smith

Jonathan Smith is taking over a Oregon State team that has struggled in recent years. The 2018 season will be Smith’s first campaign at the helm and it will not start easy for the former assistant coach of the Washington Huskies. Unfortunately for Smith, he has the Buckeyes in “The Shoe” week one.

Indiana head coach Tom Allen

Tom Allen has the Hoosiers playing tough in every game in 2017. With a 5-8 record in 2017 and close games against Michigan, Michigan State and leading at halftime against the Buckeyes, Allen and the Hoosiers look to improve.

It is possible that Allen could keep things rolling in the right direction. It will not be easy though as he does in fact coach in the Big Ten East.

Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm

Brohm has the Boilermakers going in the right direction. He has taken a team that had only won a couple games in 2016 to winning seven, including a bowl game victory, in 2017.

Brohm is one of the hottest names in college football right now. He will continue to have Purdue trending upward in 2018.

Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck

P.J. Fleck is another guy that will have his team on the rise in 2018. Although, it is possible the Gophers will struggle again this season.

The lack of depth and the amount of freshman that will have to play this season might be a struggle for Fleck. However, it is likely that Fleck’s 2018 team will be much better than his 2017 campaign.

Nebraska head coach Scott Frost

Nebraska finally got their guy in Scott Frost. Last season, Frost coached UCF to an undefeated 2017 campaign. Additionally, Frost won a national championship as a quarterback for Nebraska. Frost will bring the life back to Lincoln in 2018.

 Best of the Rest:

Penn State head coach James Franklin

If it was not for a victory against the Buckeyes in 2016, we may not be talking about James Franklin right here. Franklin has brought life back into Happy Valley. With a Big Ten championship in 2016 and a Fiesta Bowl championship last season, Franklin has the Nittany Lions back in the picture for another Big Ten title in 2018.

TCU head coach Gary Patterson

Gary Patterson has ultimately put the Horned Frogs on the map. Despite only one Big 12 championship, he has TCU in the top 15 every season.

Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio

Mark Dantonio has led the Spartans to many Big Ten titles, a Rose bowl victory and a College Football Playoff birth. His Spartans teams have been a thorn in the side of the Buckeyes, and will continue to be for years to come. The 2018 season will be no different as this could be one of his most talented teams yet.

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh

Jim Harbaugh is probably the toughest coach the Buckeyes will have to face this year. Even though Harbaugh has yet to beat the Buckeyes, he finally has a quarterback that has a chance to beat Ohio State in Shea Patterson.

The 2018 version of “The Game” wont be any different as it is shaped up to be an instant classic.

At the end of the day:

The Buckeyes are primed for a great 2018 season but have to go through theses guys and their respective teams. Urban Meyer is a better coach, but he will not take any team lightly whether it is Tulane or Michigan.
