On today’s offseason positional outlook, we’ll check out the Rams Tight-End position.

Tight End’s:

2017 Season Stats:

RECEIVING

Player Rec Yards Avg Ypg TD Tar Yac
Tyler Higbee 25 295 11.80 18.4 1 45 77
Gerald Everett 16 244 15.25 15.2 2 32 108
Derek Carrier 8 71 8.88 5.1 0 11 50

Tyler Higbee (3rd year out of Western Kentucky, 4th Round 110th Overall selection by the Rams)

Contract Situation: 4-year contract expiring in 2020

The former Western Kentucky standout was a blessing in disguise this year for the Rams. I really don’t think rookie TE Gerald Everett was ready to step in right away and become that ‘every down player’ at the position. Higbee, although not having a stellar statistical season in the passing game, was much more of a solid blocking option than Everett.

Gerald Everett (2nd year out of South Alabama, 2nd round 44th overall by the Rams.)

Contract Situation: 4-year contract expiring in 2021

It was hard to gauge Everett’s 2017 season. He was a second-round pick so of course everyone expected him to produce and be an integral part of the team. He has tremendous upside but was used sparingly in his first year in the league. Everett has all the potential to become a matchup nightmare at the tight end position. I don’t know if he will have the type of impact that Evan Engram had for the Giants last year, but look for the Rams to utilize him more this season.

With the combination of Higbee and Everett the Rams could find themselves in a good spot at the position. I am very interested to see how the offense employs both players this year. The Rams really could have themselves a solid duo assuming Everett and Higbee both remain healthy and available all season.

For better or worse, sports have played a major role in shaping my life. In middle school my mom let me take a sick day after the Eagles lost the Super bowl since I was so emotionally devastated. The guy who’s in the pew streaming the red river rivalry game on his phone while the bride is walking down the aisle? That’s me. Not my fault they planned a wedding during the biggest game of the year. If you’re one of those people that thinks sports aren’t that important, I am open minded, so I respect your opinion. I just want to also let you know that you’re wrong and I hate you.
