Being an Ohio State team captain is not just an honor, it is a privilege. Only a select few on a 65-man roster are selected. Head football coach Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes have to replace a group of captains that were part of one of the winningest teams in the history of Ohio State football. As the 2018 season is upon us the Buckeyes have to replace quarterback J.T. Barrett, center Billy Price, defensive lineman Jalyn Holmes, defensive tackle Tracy Sprinkle, defensive end Sam Hubbard and defensive end Tyquan Lewis as team captains. With H-back Parris Campbell and wide receiver Terry McLaurin coming back for the 2018 season lets take a look at some potential captains that can join McLaurin and Campbell.

Junior Defensive End Nick Bosa

When you look at Nick Bosa you see a true leader on and off the field. The potential All-American and first-round draft pick looks to add team captain to his resume. Bosa is a hard nosed and very vocal player on the defensive line. Bosa could be great team captain and someone that is the valuable part on Ohio State’s quest for their 9th National Championship.

Junior Running Back Mike Weber

Here is Mike Weber, a guy that could be the 2018 version of former team captain Kenny Guiton. Weber is a great motivator and very vocal leader.  Weber is a back up at running back just like quarterback Kenny Guiton was in 2013. Weber rushed over 1,000 yards as freshman. Weber will be splitting time again with All-Big Ten running back J.K. Dobbins and both are primed for a return to the Big Ten title game.

Senior Defensive Back Kendall Sheffield

Kendall Sheffield is a player who is kinda an unknown to win the role of team captain. Sheffield looks to be a valuable part in a defensive backfield that is replacing a fourth overall pick Denzel Ward and 2-year starter Damon Webb. Sheffield along with Damon Arnette look to be the leaders in that defensive backfield. With Sheffield being a senior look for his name to be in the mix.

Junior Defensive Lineman Dre’Mont Jones

Dre’Mont Jones is a player that Urban Meyer has praised. Being praised by Urban Meyer makes you think that he will be named team captain. Jones along with Bosa are the returning leaders on the defensive line. Jones is a very local leader on that defense that looks to be a valuable member on the 2018 football team.
