The Philadelphia 76ers started out the season on a high note. It then lost nine out of ten games as Joel Embiid missed time with back soreness.

But as the old NBA saying goes: The season officially starts after Christmas Day.

The Sixers would be wise to use this approach. Right now, they are tenth in the Eastern Conference, which means it is on the outside looking in for the playoffs.

The good news is that it’s December and we still have plenty of time to get into one of those converted spots.

The season starts now

Despite the right patch the Sixers are going through, there is no need to panic.

The Christmas day victory against the New York Knicks should be a game the Sixers build from and use to gain confidence heading into the middle of the season.

It was nice to see the Sixers close out a tight game at the end and prove to itself that it can hold a fourth quarter lead.

There has been a lot of negativity surrounding this team and with good reason, but with an 82-game season that should be expected.

I’m confident Embiid will get healthy and will lead this team to victories, because when he is playing, Philadelphia’s record proves it.

It is 14-10 when he is in the lineup and have only one win without him. For the sake of our sanity, let’s assume right now that Embiid will be available for most of those games.

Embiid playing is a major reason why Philadelphia can get a playoff berth, it’s really that simple.
