FOXBOROUGH, MA –– The New England Patriots made another practice squad transaction Tuesday, releasing tight end Kennard Backman. The Patriots had signed the second-year man from the University of Alabama-Birmingham on Saturday. Backman was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He played primarily on special teams last season, and was placed on the injured reserve to start this year’s campaign. The Packers subsequently waived him from the injured reserve shortly after.

The Patriots also signed and released tight end Austin Traylor earlier this month, which may mean that they are just scouting around for young talent at the position. They now have an open spot on their practice squad, so expect them to fill it shortly.
