We all know that Hangzhou has been one of must-follow teams in the second season. Hangzhou Spark started generating hype before the season had even begun by signing players like Xu ‘Guxue’ Qiulin, who had an impressive performance during the Contenders tournament.

The hype escalated a few weeks before the season started with the help of Christopher ‘MonteCristo’ Mykles and his tweet after having a small survey among the other teams in the Overwatch League and how according to most answers, Hangzhou’s Spark was considered the “powerhouse” in this season.

Outside of the praise and opinions on the team’s performance and roster, there is also plenty of delightful fan service from the team’s Twitter updates. As it is usual for teams to promote their upcoming matches to their fans, Spark’s remarkable difference is the storytelling build-up behind every match. It just doesn’t catch your eye, but your heart and you can’t help but to cheer for the little guy. Look at him!

The first match Spark was against the Shanghai Dragons, which they won 3-1, and to celebrate the victory their Twitter account posted art.

Perhaps the PR department has plenty of knowledge considering the owner company of Spark is Bilibili (a video sharing website) with eight years of experience working creating a brand around manga and anime for the viewers. Also, let’s be honest, the other side of the world has a better taste in cute characters as their mascots.

My excitement goes beyond the team’s great performance and work they’ve shown to win their first matches in the opening week of the new season. But I can’t wait for the upcoming art depicting these teams in an epic battle for cuteness and they have proven to arrive into the game with a big bang!

An old grumpy woman who loves Overwatch, in the last semester of Business IT and a slave to a cat that thinks my whole life goes around him and his food cup. I must confess that I have been playing video games since age 7 yet I am still a noob. I love the Overwatch league, because I can cheer for someone that plays the game as it is meant to be, or as I wish I could play it… But it might take a lot more than I can chew so for the moment I’ll just wear my team shirt, and yell at my monitor for great plays.
