OREGON STATE STARTING PITCHER: LUKE HEIMLICH

The starter for the Beavers is slated to be Senior pitcher Luke Heimlich. Heimlich was recently named national pitcher of the year after a phenomal season that saw him put up crazy numbers. On the year he is 16-1 with a 2.32 ERA with 151 strike outs. This postseason Heimlich has had two starts that have seen him thrown a combined 15.2 innings, recording two wins and giving up one earned run in each game. This is the guy every team wants on the bump in a game like this.

UNC STARTING PITCHER: COOPER CRISWELL

There has been no official announcement on who the game one starter for UNC will be, so this is pure speculation. But, it’s speculation based off the fact that Cooper Criswell was North Carolina’s go-to arm in game one of the first two rounds of the tournament. Criswell picked up wins in both of these games, as he gave up only three hits and no runs in six innings pitched against NC A&T and four hits and one run in five innings pitched against Stetson. He’s not quite Heimlich, but Criswell is still a great option to have on the mound in a big time game in Omaha.

GAME PREVIEW

UNC and Oregon State are no strangers to each other in Omaha. They have played five times in program history and every single time was in Omaha.

The pair even played in a College World Series national title series against each other in 2006 — a series that saw Oregon State win 2-1 after dropping the first game to UNC. Not to mention, Oregon State also leads the all-time series 4-1.

Not only will the all-time series be shifted from this game, but one team will take their first loss of the postseason.

Oregon State has outscored their opponents 49-8 over the course of the postseason and basically cruised through their regional and super regional with only one close game that saw them beat Minnesota 6-3.

UNC, on the other hand, cruised through their regional with only one close game that saw them beat Houston 4-3. The Tar Heels then went on to play close games with Stetson in a super regional that they wound up sweeping with 7-4 and a 7-5 wins.

Both teams are on cruise control right now and are not looking to let up. The question is, which one will stay the course and which one will let up?

Not many people can hit Beavers ace and national pitcher of the year Luke Heimlich. It will be no different for the Tar Heels, and the UNC offense is going to be shut down in Game One.

Expect UNC to come away with their first loss of the postseason in a close low-scoring battle that is going to come down to the fact that Heimlich is on the mound. It will be a good one.
