Coming into their first championship series since they won back-to-back national championships in 2006 to 2007, Oregon State dropped game one of the 2018 CWS championship to Arkansas, 4-1.
The Beavers having ace pitcher Luke Heimlich slated as the starter for game one’s matchup seemed to give them the early advantage. In the bottom of the second, a Michael Gretler RBI single put Oregon State up 1-0.
Heimlich was dealing early and it looked as if the Beavers could very well cruise to a win. Then the fifth inning came, and Arkansas changed the course of the game by putting up all four of their runs in one sitting.
Heimlich wasn’t able to finish the fifth inning, as he could only get one out before he got pulled. Heimlich finished the night with a stat line of 4.1 innings pitched, four hits, three earned runs and and five strikeouts.
Next up for Oregon State is a must-win game two against Arkansas Wednesday night at 7:00 PM EST.
