University of Michigan running back, O’Maury Samuels, has recently been dismissed from the football program, according to a press release from associate athletic director, David Ablauf.

The sophomore from Los Lunas, New Mexico has been charged with two misdemeanors. One count of domestic violence and another count of malicious destruction of property for up to $200. The incidents occurred on December 8th, and were reported by a University of Michigan police detective.

Samuels appeared in Ann Arbor’s 15th district court to receive these charges and is set to return on December 27th for a pre-trial hearing. Michigan is yet to release more details on what occurred last weekend.

As this season will come to wraps after the Wolverines face the Florida Gators in the Peach Bowl, the loss of Samuels should not be that damaging to Michigan’s offense. As a 4-star recruit in 2017, this 2018 season he has only accumulated only 66 yards in 8 carries.

Despite losing Karan Higdon, the Wolverines will still return next year with walk-on Tru Wilson and Chris Evans. They will also be gaining 4-star recruit Zach Charbonnet out of Westlake Village, California. The loss of Samuel will leave the Wolverines without any scholarship running backs from the 2017 recruiting class, now that Kurt Taylor has also decided to transfer after this season.

Michigan will face Florida on December 29th in Atlanta.

My name is Maddy Fri and I am a Communications and English Major at the University of Michigan. I was born and raised a Michigan fan, but only truly began understanding the sport of football during the Brady Hoke era. Still, I remained a true fan and am patiently waiting for Michigan to win a title (and beat OSU). I am, and always will be, loyal to the Detroit Lions – no matter how many times they don’t win a playoff game. Aside from my love for football, Michigan basketball and attending baseball games are a few of my favorite things. I’m excited to join the Armchair team and share my love for Michigan sports.
