The Ohio State Buckeyes and head coach Urban Meyer have produced great recruiting classes. The 2013 class produced players like Ezekiel Elliott, J.T. Barrett and Joey Bosa. The 2016 class produced Nick Bosa and Michael Jordan. Last year’s class had J.K. Dobbins, Jeffery Okudah and Tate Martell. So what does the 2018 class have in store for the Ohio State Buckeyes? Let’s look at the 2018 class and see what freshman could make an impact right away.
Defensive Tackle Tommy Togiai:
This big freshman gave his commitment while defensive Line coach Larry Johnson and Urban Meyer were on an official visit in his living room! Tommy Togiai is 6-foot–3 and 290 pound who was on early enrollment this past spring. Look for Togiai to be a key role on the defensive line with the departures of Michael Hill, Tracy Sprinkle, Sam Hubbard and Tyquan Lewis. He is a player that Buckeye Nation is very excited about.
Safety Tyreke Johnson:
Tyreke Johnson was one of the top players in this class ranked high on all top recruiting sites. This 6-foot-1 and 191 pound safety will definitely make a big impact in the defensive back rotation that continues to rebuild every season that Urban Meyer has coached at Ohio State. Johnson could make a bigger impact on special teams and like Okudah did during the 2017 season. He will be a player that Buckeye Nation will learn to love!
H-Back Jaelen Gill:
Jaelen Gill was an All-Ohio High School football player. Look for Gill to play a big part on special teams as the Buckeyes look to revamp the struggling kickoff team. Urban Meyer likes players to start their careers on special teams. With Gill being a hometown kid he will definitely be a guy to get on the field in 2018.
Cornerback Marcus Hooker:
Marcus Hooker is a 3-star athlete that I think could also make a impact on special teams! He is a player that comes from great football royalty. His brother Malik was also a 3-star player but ended up being a first-round draft pick to the Indianapolis Colts. Look for Marcus to have a great summer and play his way onto the field.
Offensive Tackle Nicolas Petit-Frere:
Nicolas Petit-Frere is a huge offensive tackle at 6-foot-6 and 272 pounds. Petit-Frere is a kid that could make a impact in a great offensive line rotation. Look for him to battle it out senior tackle Isiah Prince. I look forward to seeing what this kid can provide on the football field.
These five guys could ultimately each have an enormous impact for this football team. I look forward to seeing what the rest of this recruiting class will do in what could be a very exciting 2018 football season.
