In the Urban Meyer era, the state of Texas has played an important role in bringing wins to Ohio State’s program. Just a pair of names who every Buckeye fan knows from the state of Texas are J.K. Dobbins and J.T. Barrett. These guys are not just solid players either, they are the type of players to transform a program. Ohio State has continued to be aggressive in the state and one of the players they are after is Jalen Curry. Curry is a 4-star receiver who is ranked 90th in 247 sports player rankings for the class of 2019.
Curry is playing his high school ball down at St. Pius X in Houston Texas. This school is home to another potential Buckeye in Grant Gunnell. Gunnell was offered by the Buckeyes on Feb. 13. Ohio State is probably going to try and sign Curry so that they have a chance to sign Gunnell. Right now, according to 247’s crystal ball predictions Gunnell will end up at Oklahoma State, while Curry will go to Texas A&M.
Curry put up monster numbers last season for the Panthers. He had 122 receptions for 1576 yards. That’s good for an average of 12.9 yards per reception. Curry also scored 18 touchdowns on the year. He has good speed as he runs a 4.73 40-yard dash. He was a big target for Gunnell last season and it would be interesting to see that combo in Columbus.
Ohio State has gotten some of their best players from the state of Texas in the past and it is bound to continue with all of the talent in that state. Things are just getting started with regard to the class of 2019 so Ohio State has a lot of talent to sort through when it comes to their Freshman class of 2019. These pair of players from Houston will be guys to keep your eye on as the recruiting season progresses because of Ohio State’s commitment to recruiting in Texas.
