Despite sitting at the second ranked class for 2018, the early signing period was somewhat disappointing for Ohio State recruiting. Missing on several top targets, including the number one player in Ohio, stings a bit for the Buckeyes. However, with the “official” signing day over a month away, we take a look at what is left in the pond of recruits.

Defensive End Tyreke Smith

Hometown: Cleveland, Ohio.
Star Rating: 4*.
247 National Rank: 60th.
247 Position Rank: 4th.
247 State Rank: 3rd.
What it means for the Buckeyes: Like with many other top recruits for this year, Ohio State has been in a hotly contested race with Penn State for Tyreke Smith. Following Micah Parsons swinging to the Nittany Lions, Crystal Balls have begun to roll in for the Buckeyes. Smith would be a major land for Urban Meyer as the Buckeyes currently possess zero defensive linemen for 2018. Due to so many departing for the NFL, the Ohio State defensive line is losing some depth; Smith making it ever more crucial that the Buckeyes can bring him to Columbus.

Offensive Tackle Rasheed Walker

Hometown: Waldorf, Maryland.
Star Rating: 4*.
247 National Rank: 81st.
247 Position Rank: 6th.
247 State Rank: 4th.
What it means for the Buckeyes: 247 gives Penn State a 94% chance to grab Rasheed Walker which would be quite a blow to the Buckeyes who desperately need to sign more than one offensive tackle in this class. Of course, Meyer was likely expecting to sign Jackson Carman–the top recruit in Ohio. Walker would be big for the Buckeyes, but do not expect him to fax his NLI to the 614.

Linebacker Christopher Oats

Hometown: Cincinnati, Ohio.
Star Rating: 4*.
247 National Rank: 318th.
247 Position Rank: 23rd.
247 State Rank: 12th.
What it means for the Buckeyes: Out of Cincinnati, Ohio, 247 currently likes Oats to end up playing for the Kentucky Wildcats in 2018. However, Buckeye fans are confident that Ohio State can land the outside linebacker in order to keep him in-state.
