The past few days have been an exciting time for Tar Heel basketball fans as the school has been quite active in recruiting. The highlight of all of this activity came when 2019 point guard Jeremiah Francis committed to North Carolina. In addition to this massive commitment, the Heels also found themselves in the top five of top recruit Nasir Little and the top 10 of Simi Shittu.

Jeremiah Francis

The Pickerington, Ohio native committed to the Tar Heels over nine other schools just nine days after being offered a scholarship. Francis is rated as the top player in the state of Ohio by 247Sports, and he is considered the No. seven point guard in the nation.

This is an impactful pickup for the Tar Heels due to the fact that the team will likely lack a true point guard once Joel Berry graduates. In 2018 the Tar Heels will have Coby White and Seventh Woods. However both of these players are more of combo guards, so Francis will definitely have a nice role in 2019.

Francis has drawn comparisons to former Tar Heel star Ty Lawson and current star Joel Berry. Being 6’1, Francis has a similar build and playing style to Joel Berry. Francis is not afraid to attack the basket, and he is known as a very physical player in the paint. He has also shown that he has a great jump shot and terrific court vision when running the floor. As a do-it-all player, Francis will surely leave a big impact on the Tar Heels once he arrives on campus in 2019.

Nasir Little

Nasir Little is one of the top players that Roy Williams is recruiting in the 2018 class. He is a five star small forward from Orlando, Florida, and he is rated as the No. 22 player in the 2018 class according to 247Sports.

Little just released his top five schools last week, and he is scheduled to visit North Carolina on September 8th. Little’s top five schools include Duke, North Carolina, Miami, Georgia Tech, and Arizona. As of now the Heels are the favorites to land Little. However, these projections are often wrong, so no school is a lock yet.

The 6’7 forward is a dynamic player that would change the outlook of the team that he commits to. If Little were to commit to North Carolina, he would highlight a stacked recruiting class that includes five star Coby White and four star Rechon Black. A recruiting class including these three players would certainly contend for a title.

Simi Shittu

Simi Shittu is a 6’8 forward from Saxtons River, Vermont who is garnering attention from colleges all over the country. Shittu just released his top 10 colleges which included the Tar Heels on it, yet they are not favored to land him.

The five star power forward is ranked as the No. 8 player in the country according to 247Sports, and he is the No. 3 player at his position. UNC could really use a player of Shittu’s caliber due to the fact that the Heels lack depth in the frontcourt. While it may seem like a longshot to land Shittu, he is a player worth keeping an eye on since he is such a game changer.
