Day one of the Lubbock Regional played out just as many expected. The Red Raiders and Louisville are in the winners bracket, while Kent State and New Mexico State will face elimination.

Game 1: No. 1 Texas Tech 9, No. 4 New Mexico State 2

This game turned out much as was expected: Texas Tech taking the win. While this regional is deep and no team can truly be counted out, Texas Tech is, quite obviously, the favorite. The Red Raiders used four pitchers to down the New Mexico State Aggies who are now set to face Kent State to avoid elimination. Four Red Raiders posted multi hit days to help push Tech to the winners bracket, where they will face Louisville tomorrow.

Game 2: No. 2 Louisville 13, No. 3 Kent State 6

Talk about an offensive explosion, Louisville sure had one. Sophomore Logan Wyatt catapulted the Cardinals forward with a grand slam and three-run shot in the first two innings, and they never looked back. His bat accounted for 7 RBI, about half of the total runs scored by the offense. They will need that offense tomorrow against the Red Raiders, but for now, they get to revel in the explosion that led them past Kent State this evening.

Day Two….

Game 1
3 p.m. ET on ESPN3: Kent State (39-17) vs. New Mexico State (40-21)

This one means the most for both teams as the season is now on the line. The winner of this game continues on and the other heads home. As one of deepest, if not the deepest, regionals in the tournament, this game could go either way. Neither team put up much in terms of offense in comparison to their opponents on Friday. As a result, it will come down to who gets on the board first and stays in control of the game.

Game 2
8 p.m. ET on ESPN3 : Texas Tech (40-17) vs. Louisville (44-17)

In each of the last five seasons, Louisville has hosted a regional. This is unusual territory for the Cardinals, but they are in the winners bracket none the less. Louisville looked like it might not even make it to the tournament a month ago before getting hot down the stretch winning 14 of its final 17 games. They stayed hot against Kent State, putting up 13 runs against the MAC Champs. However, the Red Raiders are a different cup of tea. This is one of the games I am most excited about on the Day 2 slate.
