The Tennessee Titans are in trouble. There’s no way to sugarcoat it. One week after dropping what seemed to be an easy win against the Buffalo Bills, the Titans looked like one of the worst teams in the league in a 21-0 loss against the Ravens and fell to 3-3 on the season.

Let’s look at three key takeaways from Sunday’s loss:

  1. Third down

The Titans showed a complete inability to offensively convert or stop the Ravens on third down. The Ravens consistently gashed the Titans secondary, particularly Malcolm Butler, on third down to keep drives alive. The Ravens would finish the game going 12-17 on third down. Offensively, the Titans converted on only 10% of their attempts on third down, and Marcus Mariota rarely had any time to make a throw down the field. Their inability to keep drives moving allowed the Ravens to get the ball back and run time off the clock.

The Titans ended up punting on every single one of their drives yesterday. You know how hard that is to do in the NFL?

  1. Offensive line

The Ravens had 11 sacks. 11 sacks. There are few words that can be used to describe how awful the Titans offensive line was on Sunday. They allowed one fewer sack than the NFL record. Tackles Taylor Lewan and Jack Conklin played inexcusable football. The interior linemen, Quinton Spain, Ben Jones and Josh Kline looked like junior varsity players trying to block NFL hall of famers. It was not a matter of Mariota holding onto the ball too long, it was the offensive linemen not doing their jobs.

The Ravens had so much fun yesterday, that they went to Twitter to troll the Titans even more.

  1. Respect?

After the Titans defeated the Eagles in week four, Taylor Lewan told the media that the Titans need some respect. That the earned and deserved it. Since then, they have lost to the Bills and got shutout by the Ravens. In six games this season, the Titans offense has not scored in three of those. The Titans don’t get national respect because they have been mediocre or bad for over a decade. Then, as soon as they appear to have momentum they lose in embarrassing fashion. These players need to stop worrying about what people are saying about their team, and instead worry about not making fools out of themselves.

With a game against the red-hot Chargers in London looming next week, if the Titans don’t make some serious adjustments they will find themselves riding a three game losing streak into the bye week.
