Offensive tackle Michael Oher has been released
He joined the team in the beginning of the 2015 football season and played in 98% of the team’s snaps, allowing only 4 sacks on his side. In 2016, Oher signed a three-year extension worth $21.6 million with $9.5 million guaranteed. He was placed on injured reserve in November of 2016 after suffering a concussion. Since the concussion he’s been out of all team activities including OTA’s and minicamp. The failed physical was just more of a reason to let him go, seeing is that there’s no way to tell if he could even play this season.
It’s an unfortunate situation for Michael Oher, but football is a business. If you can’t benefit the team, there’s no reason for you to be there. The Panthers also signed offensive guard Trai Turner to a 4-year extension earlier Thursday. Did Turner get the extension because of the release of Oher, or is this just a big coincidence? We’ll keep you posted if the story develops more.
