UF Coach Mac might face his old team earlier than expected.

Between the 2017 and 2020 football seasons, the Gators will play the Colorado State Rams to finalize the payment UF owes to CSU.

The deal states that UF’s University Athletic Association owes McElwain’s former coaching grounds three million dollars over the next six years. For a two million dollar guarantee, the schools have agreed to play a game against each other in Gainesville. Coach Mac has also committed to paying two million dollars over time to CSU.

McElwain coached at Colorado State for three seasons before heading back to the SEC to become head coach for the Orange and Blue. Previous to his head coaching job at Colorado State, he served as the offensive coordinator for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

McElwain’s current record at UF is 10-4. He is the only coach to win the SEC East Championship in their first year at the school. He currently holds the title as SEC Coach of the Year.
