Wow. When you’ve seen the Lakers in the headlines lately maybe you’ve seen articles about Luke Walton’s job security or Lonzo Ball leaving Big Baller Brand. I think the last thing people expected to see is that Magic Johnson, the president of basketball operations for the Los Angeles Lakers, has just resigned. Luke Walton and his staff were expecting to be fired hours after the season finale against the Trail Blazers but now everything is up in the air. Magic and Luke haven’t spoken in months so obviously their relationship is not the relationship you want between the front office and the Head Coach. Magic was too afraid to tell Jeanie Buss, the owner of the Lakers, so he instead held a press conference announcing his decision.

Although Magic is getting hate for the way he went about this (not telling Jeanine) you have to understand why he did this. Magic’s hands were tied. He said he just wants to have the pressure off, enjoy retired life, and continue his business ventures. Although Magic will get hate from his time with the Lakers you can’t ignore his greatest accomplishment as an executive with the Lakers: SIgning LeBron James. Without Magic at the helm I don’t know if LeBron signs with the Lakers. Of course it’s a possibility he still would’ve signed but you can’t be certain.

My name is Matthew Shapiro and I am from a suburb northwest of Los Angeles. Since I was born, I have been a Lakers fan. As a fan of the Lakers, I’ve seen everything. I’ve seen them at their highs and at their lows. Besides the Lakers, I am also a huge Dodgers, Astros and Seahawks fan. When not watching, reading or breathing sports I love playing basketball and soccer. Another activity I enjoy doing is giving back to my community. For example, every week I help children with special needs play baseball. Please continue to follow my page and the Armchair All Americans site.
