With the NBA trade deadline coming to a close and many teams scrambling to adjust their rosters, the Orlando Magic decided to do the same, and traded Jonathon Simmons and future picks for the Philadelphia 76ers’ Markelle Fultz.
Fultz, a player who was drafted number one in the 2017 NBA Draft, was chosen by the Philadelphia 76ers during their days as a team known for their mantra of “Trust the Process”, a saying in which Sixers fans would state during their rebuilding tenure prior to being a competitive force.
However, while Fultz may have been drafted at number one, he hasn’t been able to compete at a high level due to injuries related to his shoulder. As a result, many are anxious to see if he’ll be able to compete at a level that hasn’t been seen since his days playing college ball.
Some are hoping that the recent trade of Fultz heading to Orlando may be seen as a net win for both parties, Fultz can start over on a new team, while the Magic can have another player run as a point guard.
Magic v. Timberwolves
Today, the Magic are hosting the Minnesota Timberwolves, so Simmons will still be able to play in tonight’s game.
During the pregame interviews with the media, some of the players touched on how they are not letting any trade rumors distract them from the game.
“For me personally, I don’t really pay attention too much as far as the rumors and stuff, don’t think about it too much,” said Nikola Vucevic. “The GM’s job is to make the best decision for the team and you just live with it.”
The Magic are looking to win tonight, in hopes of closing the gap between them making it into the postseason and them missing it again.
Catch the Magic host the Minnesota Timberwolves at 7 p.m.
