As we have seen earlier in the summer, there have been rumors and speculation that the Orlando Magic may be getting new jerseys, themed, “Juice Jerseys”; in addition, just this past week, the official Orlando Magic social media accounts recently shared concept images of three different court designs.

All these things could point to a possible re-branding that many teams in the league take part in, most recently teams such as: the Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets and even the in-state rivals, the Miami Heat.

Ever since the NBA switched to Nike as its jersey distributor, the Magic have been switching it up for the past few seasons. Going from the traditional blue and white jerseys, to the alternate black jersey, and occasionally donning the throwbacks of the 90’s.

Three Court Designs

Just last week, the official Orlando Magic Twitter account uploaded a post promoting their upcoming season. Within the tweet was a video showing the different court designs: the Core design, the Icon design and the Association design.

What’s notable of the three new designs when comparing it to the current design, is the fact that some of the logos on the court are either updated/replaced with a different logo.

One prime example is how the current court has the paint, in the color blue; however, when looking at the Icon design, the paint is now black, with white pinstripes going from left to right, (from the free-throw line to the hoop).

Another, is that the old court had an empty space opposite of the Amway Center logo, now the space will be replaced with a logo that reads ‘Rich & Helen DeVos Court’, referencing the late owner and his wife.

Now the question on why the Magic are only now considering a slight update to their brand, is anyone’s guess. It could be argued that the Magic are looking to create a new identity to excite the city. This is a reasonable idea when you take into account that the team just had a taste for playoff basketball, something that hasn’t happened since Dwight Howard was on the team. This could be a new “chapter” in Orlando Magic history.

My name is Jonathan David and I am from a small town called Green Cove Springs, located in northeast Florida. Originally from Miami, Florida, my family moved up north, as I was entering the fourth grade. Once we moved, I eventually started getting into sports a lot more. I did soccer, basketball and running and pole-vaulting; however, the main sport that I pretty much keep up with is, basketball, specifically the NBA. Although I’ll occasionally watch track and field if it’s on ESPN. There were many reasons why I got into basketball, besides it looking like fun, one reason was because I wanted to be like Bugs Bunny from Space Jam, not Michael Jordan, but Bugs Bunny, and while my dream of being an animated character hasn’t panned out, I still enjoy playing and watching the sport. My favorite NBA team is the Orlando Magic, and I’ve been a fan since Lebron was in Miami, so when they eventually get good, people can’t say I’m a bandwagon fan.
