The Los Angeles Clippers have the 12th and 13th overall picks in this year’s NBA Draft. With that, they can leverage a trade to move and grab the player they really want. Currently, the Clippers seem be prepared to do that.
According to Michael Scotto of The Athletic, the Clippers have “made several calls to several teams” with a Top-10 pick to try to make a trade. According to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, Missouri forward Michael Porter Jr. has been linked to the Clippers. The Clippers may be interested in acquiring a pick that gets them Real Madrid guard Luka Doncic.

Scotto added that the Clippers can package their two first round selections along with Tobias Harris to move up.
Harris is entering the final year of his contract and will make almost $15 million next season. With an expiring contract, a talent like Harris and two lottery selections could make a team pull the trigger on the trade.
Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports went on the Chris Mannix podcast to add to the speculation of the Clippers moving up to acquire Doncic.
“You could see a lot of pick movement. The Clippers have looked to trade up,” Charania said. “I think one guy that they’ve looked at heavily is Luka Doncic from Real Madrid.”
Why it’s important
Doncic appears to be the most pro ready out of any prospect. The EuroLeague is widely considered the second best professional league in the world. Doncic became the youngest MVP in EuroLeague history at 19 years old. He averaged 14.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists. He led Real Madrid to the EuroLeague championship. Doncic was named MVP of the EuroLeague Final Four as well.
Currently at 6-foot-7 and 210 pounds, Doncic has the ability to play both guard positions and small forward. He has the court vision to run an NBA team and can create scoring opportunities for himself.
In a city like Los Angeles, the Clippers can use a potential superstar like Doncic. They are in the process of retooling their team. This happened after trading both of their franchise players Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. Doncic is the star that can help bring entertainment back to the Clippers.
