Luc Richard Mbah a Moute has agreed to a one year deal with the Houston Rockets for $2.3 million. Houston is building a strong defensive identity with this signing. Mbah a Moute will be rejoining teammate Chris Paul as they both played together in Los Angeles for the Clippers.

Mbah a Moute was the starting small forward for the Clippers. Last season, he averaged 6.1 points and shot 50.5 percent from the field. He played in 80 games for Los Angeles last season. Mbah a Moute spent two seasons with the Clippers.

Houston Has A Defense?

The Rockets defense has gotten a slight upgrade signing Mbah a Moute. This signing goes well with the signing P.J. Tucker on July 6. The Rockets finished 18th in the league last season when it came to defense with a defensive rating of 106.4. Quickly, the Rockets have built up a very solid bench next season with him. The bench consists of Tucker, reigning 6th Man of the year, Eric Gordon, as well as either Nene or Clint Capela depending on who Houston starts next season.

Mbah a Moute won’t bring a load of offense but his defense more than makes up for that. At 6’8″ and 230 pounds, Mbah a Moute brings a defensive tenacity that Houston hasn’t had for a while.
