Game 3: Kent State 2, New Mexico State 1
Saturday’s first match-up, unlike the game that followed it, was extremely close. Kent State eliminated New Mexico State after a go-ahead home run by Pete Schuler and a solid defensive showing. Kent State will now face Louisville in hopes for a spot in the regional finals Sunday evening. It will take more than two runs, however, to beat the Cardinals Sunday afternoon. Kent State will need a strong performance both on the mound and at the plate to continue their push to Omaha.
Game 4: Texas Tech 10, Louisville 4
Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but the Red Raiders put up 10 runs and knocked Louisville into the loser’s bracket. Between two pitchers, Texas Tech was able to work around an early Louisville lead and solidify their spot in the regional final. Three Red Raiders posted multi-hit games, pushing the Cardinals — who were in Omaha a year ago — into an elimination game on Sunday afternoon.
